Re: Re: Kabu,

yes an elevated walk way or drive way would be a good idea thinking of that.

Re: TAPS,

It has been that long since I went to the Cheyenne Mt Zoo, too.  Time to remedy that!

Re: Kabu,

I've been to a couple of game parks like that.  Very similar idea, but to be seen by the elevated walkways instead of driving around. You wouldn't have the ostriches madly pecking bugs off your windshield, for one thing.

Re: CCT,

I like the idea of a place that is designed to take days to see, with accomodations between areas.  The recharger stations are a good idea, too. Instead of electric fencing, moats could be used, and natural-looking walls of rock such as some of the better zoos already use to divide enclosures. If you rely on electricity, and the power fails, it's T-rexes and velociraptors all over the place.

The walkways in my plan are elevated at least in many areas.  I can imagine tunnels, too, to see what goes on in underground dens and underwater.

Re: JimmyA,

Or send their animals to other facilities that are not unable to provide even adequate arrangements.

Caging a roaming creature is simply cruel. Cleveland's zoo used to be just rows of small cages designed only for the public to see what a tiger or a chimpanzee or a gazelle looked like.  I haven't seen it in a few years--40!--so I imagine they've made some improvements.

I agree. There's nothing sadder than seeing an animal . . . any animal . . . confined to a cage. They should be able to roam free and unencumbered. However, many zoos have limited space, and probably cannot do what you suggested. They need more land . . .

By the time it is warm enough to enjoy the Kansas City Zoo, it will have been two years since I have been there.  We need to plan a trip to see what changes have been made.

Yes protected walk ways would be  quite a good idea I think Ciel . I mean one could camp and roam from one place to another. No cars of course perhaps bicycles Perhaps spend a few weeks or so venturing in safety through wild country . There probably would not be elephants or animals that could knock the fence down although an electric wire might eventually solve that problem. Oh! chargers for mobile phones in case one wanted to be rescued or was taken ill , or receive supplies. Not yet perhaps but who knows.

there are breeding Zoos for animals where you can drive your car through and not allowed out of the car. Near Torronto we visited one with Lions and Rhinos , Giraffs and Elephants...deer antilope, lots of varieties..even baboons but no one visits them because they are known to jump on a car and wreck it. They aren't perfect zoos but they are acres and acres to be able to roam.
