I had almost exactly the same thing happen to me with a wig once. Sis insisted on giving it to me and making me promise to wear it. Definitely not my color or style. I got exactly the same comment and probably in the same tone of voice.

Well Kabu you could make some lovely fur hats out of that coat You could have set a new fashion. The sleeves would make some good leg warmers. Mark my words you will see folk walking around with fur hats made from your coat.

As much as I like to change things up in my house, I probably would have found some place to put it for a conversation piece. Maybe laying it across the back of a chair or throwing it over a low table and putting some of your painted rocks on top for a "display" :) :) But then there are times when one feels that an item could be "served" better somewhere else. Or just getting it out of the closet to make room was, also, an option.:)
