where's that brian gabber the young fellow or maybe it's not in this blog that he appears from time to time. I swear you do remember a lot of your life. You and my dad. he's good for stories especially from his boyhood and being in the Marines after the war. and so it goes.

So different is life now  to when I was a kid. At boarding school we could not even ring our parents ...nobody ...it was even frowned upon if we received a phone call.

It's amazing how things have changed. I had to explain to a nephew recently what a certain term used in a movie meant. Someone was looking to 'rat' someone else out about something, and they said they would "drop a dime" on this person. First I had to explain the concept of phone booths, and then I had to explain that a phone call back then was only ten cents. So, if you were going to call someone to point out what someone else had done to get them in trouble, you had to 'drop a dime' into the phone to make the call! -whew!- Things were much less complicated back then . . .
