TAPS

I can understand Baisy's Mom, given the environment, but I'm glad I don't see the need for one...

I'm in agreement with you about guns in a house full of small children being frightening. I can understand the security it gives the parents, and the usefulness it could have if the bad were to happen, and yet...

I keep thinking of one of those little ones entering the room on tiny silent feet, spotting the gun and playing with it because hey! It's new and shiny and looks cool.

I've also got an overactive imagination, but still.

I do approve of teachers learning to master it, what with all the terrible school shootings that have been happening recently. But that also begs the question; where are they keeping these Glocks that they're learning how to use? Learning to master it, then keeping the gun in a place where it won't hurt children renders the weapon useless. And if it's in an easy-to-reach place, wouldn't that mean also easily reached by children?

And I'm probably overthinking. This topic is of interest to me, because both sides have valid points, and yet both sides have glaring weaknesses and dangers.

Re: Kabu

Son checked it out because he thought it might be someone's pet.  What he found out was that:

I just read an article that says Peafowl are becoming a common thing in Florida... In fact, "the state considers them domestic birds, like chickens, and not wild birds." - - AND, they are becoming a nuisance in many areas... These birds do not have any natural predators here in the US so they are reproducing at an uncontrollable rate. The Florida Fish and Wildlife Conservation Commission has listed them as "one more example of a nonnative species invading Florida."

I myself do not have a gun in my house. It does seem to me that most these days have one.

well I don't advocate for guns but when I was alone in the bush with my babies I kept the shot gun by the bed and the dogs and the babies in bed with me...so Baisy's Mommy has my sympathy and understanding...and that lovely peahen????she saw family...hmnnn suckers....I think I might just settle down here. Wonder if she is someone's pet.

Neither Grandma King nor Davitt ever allowed guns or knives and none of us do, to my knowledge. If I've left my kids defenseless at schools and work, then I'm at faukt, but that's why. Good post.

The trouble with old houses they do creak and shift in different weather conditions , not funny when one is alone and feeling nervous.

Re: TAPS,

And I get excited with squirrels dropping by!

Fear is the worst reason to have a gun handy. Maybe anger is worse...  But Americans have a blind spot, possibly a crazy spot, when it comes to guns. I knew someone personally who lost a child to another child playing with Daddy's gun.

I don't think I'd feed that hen - she may be looking for a nesting spot

and they do make a nasty mess behind them, but she seems a bit domesticated.

Like you, I'm a bit worried about the increasing number of everyday people carrying handguns and keeping them handy - panic is scary, but panic with a gun in hand ... ewww.
