I'm afraid I can't really blame them. Operatic music is fine, but once those 'fat people' start wailing, I'm usually outta there too! Never had a flare for music myself though. I actually tried the trumpet many, many moons ago, but just could not master it. Then I tried guitar, both regular and bass, and they turned into nightmares as well! Oh, well. I guess some people just aren't meant to play instruments . . .

its nice to have music and children that play it, do the kids of this generation get into music like they did back then?

I love this post so much. I know just how you feel you so need rest but it only comes when it is in the way of all else. I agree 100%, however, I do not think you failed in not teaching them to like Opera. I have tried and tried and it bores me to tears. I love all sorts of music. I am married to a man who plays all stringed instruments except harp. I love the house blowing the windows out with Vivaldi but opera makes me remember a sow in labor. I love you, hope you get rest!

when I have been to the Opera I am like Julia Roberts in "Pretty woman" I want to wet my pants....Have had some wonderful experiences...and when I was there when Pavarotti sang live at a Concert in Sydney I rang my sister and told her that I can die happy now.

Merry Christmas dear Taps.

Interesting! I have read a lot of Plato's philosophy, but don't remember that quote! Too bad that his own compositions have come down to us, if he wrote any...

Oh, and I adore opera! And the voices!!! There are some sopranos that literally send a chill down my spine...For example, the soprano solos in Orff's Carmina Burana, (which isn't an opera, of course) especially the 23rd, the Dulcissime, short as it is, is devastatingly beautiful...

I once dated an opera buff who taught me a bit about it, and I still

appreciate them more than I would have otherwise. He had aspired to sing, but told me he just didn't have the "pipes." I heard him sing a number or two and you coulda fooled me - I thought he was very good.

I have never cared for opera, but then, I have never heard it live.

When I am expecting people at a certain time, and they don't show up right then, right away I start wondering if no one is coming...
