I avoid them FS unless the assistant puts it through, they do sometimes but seem a bit niggly.

The only time I use it is when I am in a hurry, other than that I prefer the interaction with the clerk.

That's what it might take for me too! I tried it once, at a grocery store, and hated it! Nothing but problems and glitches! I actually don't mind interacting with other humans in this case . . .

What about the self check-in machines at airports?

I want to use them but fear missing my flight as I struggle to figure out which button to press next, even with the on-screen instructions in place. As for the check-in counter personnel, one of them once laughed at me when she asked me what seat I preferred and I said 'in the aisle'. I understand I was suposed to say 'on the aisle'. It was in Cincinnatti.(hope I have spelled this right; English/American is not my mother tongue)

I will sometimes use the self checkout. If I have a few things and the other lines, with human cashiers, are long. But, given a choice, I would probably go with the cashier.
