Naut

It's true most companies have some degree of this.  But in my experience, people just sort of talked the talk as a formality.  Here people actually seem to believe in it!

Thanks for the comment

We used to have discretion. but things have changed, and it seems like procedures now get in the way more than help.

Re: Church or cult?

Sigh... hitting the wrong button at the wrong time...  a habit lately.

My son in law works for Microsoft, and last I heard, has a Mac at home. I've used both Mac and this PC laptop I've got now, which runs Windows something-or-other...   I like whichever one I'm used to.

I have been that customer that has concluded that Easy Buttons are a lie. I shop that place as seldom and cheaply as I can: will never again make a major purchase there.  The people in the store are great, and they know what's going on, but have little discretion granted them by Corporate.  Customers are not stupid.  Like politicians, corporations forget that.

A very interesting comparison.

Very pertinent observations! You're absolutely correct: There's a distinct parallel between the kind of reaffirming talk prevalent and obligatory in a religious community and that found in a company, once it has been introduced by management ('priests'} and is rewarded. After a while it becomes self-sustaining, and people who refuse to participate in 'talking the talk' usually don't last long...

How neat to find such a place. I have definitely never experienced that at a job before.

Reading this has me wondering how many companies that ends up happening to.
