Re: Some 43 years, to be exact!
I was single and had given myself a year off from teaching English (and the drudgery of grading essays) to take a much lower-paying job as a secretary down on Washington Square. That was the year of the NYU student demonstrations against Nixon's incursion in Cambodia. It was an interesting year off in so many ways. I'm glad I did it.

The poem looks back at a time long gone yet the wonder seems so alive....🌹

Re: Hey, CC, she was out with ME - I WAS the dessert!
And, as for Louise, she was "arm-candy"! Every once in a while she wore a sort of see-through blouse that drew a lot of male attention when she walked along West 4th Street. I was surprised and delighted when she agreed to the date with me - I was about ten years older than she was.

Re: Saif, me too. I think she was sizing me up somehow. I was
at least ten years older than she was, but she never made me feel that way.

Re: Dr J, we never went very far beyond the date, but I DO
remember that she had beside the couch in her apartment a big Navy aerial bomb. It was just the hollow metal shell, of course, but it had fins and all! I think she got it from a boyfriend.

Re: Yes, being enigmatic WAS a Louise thing. She was
always interesting, I'll say that for her. And she was always funny and good company. We were both secretaries at NYU. She was on one side of the second floor of #1 Fifth Avenue, and I was on the other.

Oof - I'd be wondering too. Was it a backhanded compliment, you think? Love the way you do that - so original and unexpected!
