From observations where I live, I am pleasantly surprised how fast drivers adapt and cooperate with four-way stopping when the traffic lights go out.  But I agree with you, that it should not stay that way regularly.

and most folks do not understand 4 way stops, or are too timmed to take their turn.

we too have seen uprooted trees and debri from really big storms up this way this year...they seem to have stopped now.

I did not make that assumption and am actually against the idea of automatically replacing most traffic lights with four way stops partially for that reason plus the other reasons I listed in the entry.

maybe if it was a one horse town but I cant imagine how bad that would be with no stop lights

We'll always find something to complain about, FSI, and the way the traffic moves is as good a reason as any.

I hate to sound overly cynical but, four-way stops or traffic lights won't make much of a difference when it comes to "crappy drivers." You're going on the assumption that people are still paying attention on the roads . . .
