That  state may be rougher on minorities in general that I thought.  How horrible to have that many (20) years for mere warning shots when someone can be killed with a year's sentence.  Justice does not always turn out to be blind, but I love it when it does.

The circus is beginning now. I think systemic issues need addressing now, not drama about anything.

My wife and I tried our best to follow along with everything connected to this case, and it really was as confusing as can be! It's one of those situations where you try to put yourself in Zimmerman's shoes. What would you have done? Young Martin may not have deserved to die, but I also don't believe that Zimmerman should have been facing the death penalty or life in prison either. At this point it probably doesn't matter. I think Zimmerman has been punished enough, with his life already in shambles. A bizarre case indeed . . .

I don't know about it being just but I think that given the parameters the jury had to work with it's the only verdict they could arrive at! But, had Zimmerman stayed in his vehicle and let the police approach the teenager I believe he would be alive today! I have no use for Zimmerman because of his overzealousness and profiling of Martin, (IMO) he did refrer to him as a f----ing punk in his own trite way. He was profiling and Martin had every right to be there! I think the prosecution  failed Martin. The lead detective suggested manslaughter from the get go and that's what should have been the focus of the trial for the prosecution. Zimmerman made so many mistakes in my humble opinion and a teenager loses his life, it's a travesty, indeed! Zimmerman needed to act like an adult instead of judge, jury and executioner for me. Needless to say I am passionate about this one because while I respect the decision of the jury I do not agree that Zimmerman gets to walk while hiding behind the inane stand your ground law! I believe that black youth have been paralyzed in this one because I can't believe for a minute they can feel safe on the streets in anywhere, U.S.A. And that saddens me to no end. If this opens dialogue for a change for the better then his death is not in vain but if it isn't it's just travesty that will keep people from growing into productive citizens! No one can realize their potential if they don't feel safe, they will be on the defensive and when they make a mistake they will be held to a higher level of accountability and the kicker is they will be always be the victim but it will never be recognized! Just my humble thoughts. This one fires me up because there is so much change that needs to occur but change seems to move at a snails pace. sam

I can't believe they are giving him back his gun so he can protect himself.

DrJ

From what I've seen, and that was by no means everything, it strikes me it was the only verdict they could arrive at, in spite of tremendous pressure for a different outcome...

TO ALL

I just received a comment from an acquaintance who is thinking about losing her life over this.  Since I do not know exactly where she lives, I cannot go to her.  I have asked her to please call a professional that she knows for she has no family here in Florida. She has taken internally the problem of someone else in this national and not personally hers. I will see what I can do keep in touch with her without angering her.

Hmm...

I haven't made my mind up about this one yet, so can't (won't) comment much just now. It's a complicated situation, one that I've been struggling with for a while now.

That sad thing about justice, and our way of weighing it, is the miscaraige of wrongs and rights, but I know of no other system, other than God, that is more true and more just.
