This person answered a phone not belonging to them. This is why I felt no need to say my name.

Well I never speak to anyone who I do not know, well only once, but I know folk can become aggressive perhaps body language is missing.

Some people seem to be tough on the phone but face to face they become cowards in my humble opinion! sam

I agree with Kabu. I think the person probably felt somewhat guilty, and felt it was best to leave before a possible confrontation. Perhaps you simply caught them on a "bad day" when you called. It happens to everyone . . .

I can't recall anyone being rude to me on the phone. If it were to happen, I would probably just hang up...

Sounds most like guilt to me. She/He owns the problem not you. I try not to be rude ever on the phone... altho I have got frustrated with telemarketers I will admit.
