You made the nets in which they could boil potatoes, and I fried the potatoes in oil to make money at 14, CCT. You tell these stories so well - love reading them.

Re: ChiffChaff

Yes I expect you were on the Ball Wiley. I don't like the kids delivering my paper they shoot out on the roads apparently without looking.

Like you, I went to work at 13, but lucky for me no war. I don't know how you made it in those days, but I am so happy that you did.

I thought of work when I was fourteen, and the getting of cash.

Never thought of making nets, or using them to catch critters. It seems to me a better occupation for a boy than tweeting or texting or video games.

Re:

Yes FS , really you never had it so good, but times are swinging around again for a lot of unfortunate folk.

CTT

Another richly woven poem about your youth - fascinating, especially since I had never heard of potato nets before, and since there purpose is a bit of a mystery to me...

Life was a struggle of wits and those English poaching laws were a travesty of fair play in the game of life. The rich had everything and the poor went to Australia as convicts.

Reading this has me thinking about when I was fourteen. Times have sure changed a lot.
