Re:

Hi Sam.. it seems to me to be keeping his son from independence, by not making him more responsible (for fear of being always 'on his case'... he does tell him to do things, but nothing sinks in).
I don't say anything to the son about the mess he makes; it's best I don't.  When I tried to tell my parter how I felt about having to clean up after him, he said it was only small stuff, and when I responded to that, he said it was his kitchen.  So he can do it next time, then.. smile.

I got upset when he, again, said how unreasonable my children's attitudes have been (to do with my having a new man in my life).  I guess they are slow to adapt. They don't live with me, so that isn't why he doesn't stay at my house - it's to do with not wanting to leave his son at home alone too often.  Seems to be ok to do that when we go away somewhere, however.. different I guess.. plus he's said he can't see the point in being at my house, he's never going to live there.  That was an 'ouch' for me but I knew all along the son would have to be his priority (he is a vulnerable adult).
Right now, I have some practical matters to see to, so it will all have to go on the back burner for a while.

Re:

Nice to see you Taps... it's a little better now. The issues will still be there no matter what, but right now my sister is more important, and her family.  Things evolve, don't they..

It can be trying! It seems he might be using your children to stay at his place! He would be better served to not look at his child through colored rose glasses as it were! He will be mightily surprised one day! sam

Depends on what you are going to start, I think.
You do sound secretly unhappy, which is not good for you.
