I really do like reading you.  You always give me something to take away with me and think about.

you really are my friend...I just can't get myself motivated to try and

sell anything anymore. Poem story or painting.

Yes - suggestions. I can't do an outline really - and when required in school essays I did as James did - wrote the story and went from there to create the outline. Then again...I"m not a writer either. Do you really think most published writers use outlines?

Pat

I would simply see it as 'suggestions', not as 'commands'...but then I don't do any writing anyway...

Re: JimmyA - re: writing contests...

Know what you mean, Jimmy. I often think the winners are selected from among those who attended the same school or conference as the judges. Otherwise, how could they not pick my darling adorable bit?

Re: CCT - should be no problem...

Oh, dear, CCT, I must have misled you. I haven't published six books. Only self-published one, which I've since revised. I've written six. I only hope I'll get up the ambition to get something out there to a publisher's slush pile soon.

I used to subscribe to Writer's Digest, but gave it up for personal reasons that I'm not sure if I should go into or not. It had to do with a writing contest that I entered that I believe was "fixed," or at least biased. As for writing outlines, I honestly don't think they're necessary. For me, all stories have a beginning, a middle, and a conclusion, and I actually like to start with the conclusion and work backward. I don't think there's a "correct" or "definitive" way to write, just as there's not a "correct" or "definitive" way to draw or paint. I think it should be solely up to the "artist" as to what they want to portray, and how they want to portray it . . .
