I would imagine it's tough bidding adieu to a place that has been so familiar for such a long time! sam

I wish the best for them, too FSI.  Reading this made me smile.  Thank you.

FSI

I've rarely found the service as good anywhere as in a Mom and Pop store! For that reason alone I like them...

I like Mom and Pop stores. However, I can imagine these two are ready to cash in and relax a little.

There are certain things that will be out of their control once they retire and sell that business, like what the next owner will do at that location. Yeah, the "mom & pop" businesses are becoming dinosaurs, and that's really a shame!

tis true, the Mom and pop stores in many areas are coming to an end

it is all Multi National chain stores and Malls and that friendly helpfulness is gone. B ut even the Malls are going to suffer soon as more and more people shop on the Internet.

No they are are on their last legs so to speak FS. Not many one man businesses can compete. Just a bit of info I was told today of a local car wash --valet . Ten attendants all by hand. Approx ten minutes cost £15. Going back a bit in time?

You are a good man FSI, you see the good side of most situations. The sad truth is that the mom and pop businesses of the world are coming to an end, they just cannot compete with the buying power of the big chains. Sad...Very sad.

That is wonderful; their long run and now retirement...

But I too am saddened when small businesses close. And I suppose the bottom line is a fine line between gain and a well lived existence. Nicely written entry, FSI...

II’m surprised that they accept credit or debit at all. BC-A, Bill’s R®st

retiring for them may be hard and they probably have done the same thing forever.  I was excited to retire as I hated my job
