Well written history and brings back war memories for me when my 3 brothers were overseas. My BIL Eddy was in the RCN on a Corvette and escorted his father's ship, 'The Lady Rodney' in a convoy across the Atlantic. Eddy's dad was Captain of that ship.

So interesting.  I love reading family histories like this.  There are way too many people who have not a clue about their families.

My father couldn't join up because he had a skin complaint and he

wouldn't be able to fight in the tropics and being a farmer he was encouraged to grow wheat to feed the troops.

I remember, I remember Pat. I was not very old but I somehow knew this was bad news.

Of course Pearl Harbour was more vivid, it was terrible but if it had not happened I think we would have succumbed to Hitler. This does bring back memories.

Fascinating! One teensy-weensy point: although there was all kinds of stuff going on in various parts of the world and in Europe, the beginning of WWII is generally considered to be Germany's invasion of Poland on Sept 1, '39...
