Re: I'm sure, my friend...

somebody would proclaim "governor" or Emperor--and many would follow this alliance. But I'm also sure there'd be just as many good, free-thinking men and women, in alliance as well...that may just (ironicly) "take their crops" force 'em to work " " ".... You're right, those would be some fine times.

Ha! Am sure the government would find a way for its pound of flesh...

take half our crops, force us to do service in whatever work we do for so many hours a week, free labor for them. Once again, like the good old days.

Re:

The governments wouldn't.  I suppose lazy people might still be lazy, but they'd soon learn huh? Maybe we'll see one day.

Re:

Hmm? Yeah, I assume this is partly true, Utah. But I'd have to disagree with "the bad holding all the coinage". Just as Kings and Queens use their head in security and robbery tactics, so would the average household/community, in this day and time.  You're right this is America and wouldn't change that--just the rich being rich and poor being exrremely poor.  Thanks.

I think that with or without a monetary system there is always going to be exploitation.

As Jimmy comments, some people would be completely lost faced with bartering. It would need to be taught at the knee; and I think we would still have lazy thieves and such...as in the good old days. It's a great...and humane...concept, the bartering system. I wonder how the governments would get their money then?

In the real days of barter and trade there were Kings and Queens and Princesses and Princes and oh yes, a whole lot of bad dudes who came and took what they the royalty wanted, and a Pope too who took what he wanted...They are why folks had to barter and trade the kings and queens and princesses and princes and the bad dudes and the pope had all of the coinage. The good news is that we live in America, because of that we are empowered, and because we are empowered we can also become "rich" I know because I once was. Put efforts into something your friends, neighbors, and community needs, or wants. Make it, promote it and be happy.

another thought provoking post. We never used to lock our doors until

around the middle of the 1980's before that, no one had much to steal anyway.

Re:

You have some interesting comments, yourself, Jimmy. Thanks for shining that one on me.

Very interesting thoughts. However, if I were to throw my hat into the ring on this one, I would have to say that many, many people would be in trouble today if a "bartering system" were either still in place, or was reinstated. Money/ currency seems to make it somewhat easier for people to obtain certain goods and services ( although it is someone else entirely who decides their worth ). I'm sorry if this may sound a tad harsh, but left to their own devices, I think too many people would be completely lost if they had to barter their skills and talents against another's to obtain their goods or services. Money isn't everything, as you've stated, but it's all we have right now!

Re: Re: Interesting...

I too believe the majority of people have worth (exceptions being cold hearted killers/child abusers) and in a perfect world, all gifts, including those not readily obvious would be barter-able (not sure that is a proper word, lol, but hopefully the meaning is apparent) to degrees of self sustainability. Unfortunately in our instant gratification, flesh drenched and grab all you can while you can society, I have my doubts. Thanks for the response; 'tis a very interesting concept.

Re: Interesting...

Hmm? Well, now that would depend on self-esteem, confidence and such, I guess. I don't mean that in an insulting way. I simply believe that EVERY single person is talented: with word or song; genious in architecture or numbers; muscle or sexuality; ugly or pretty. One simple has to look...or let another eye find it for them.  Thanks for commenting.

Interesting...

Problem is, we're not endowed equally as a people - some are smarter, more beautiful and sexually desirable, more creative, inventive, gifted sports wise, harder working, stronger, etc. So there would still be an imbalance because those who had more natural gifts could barter their way to almost anything they wanted, while those not so lucky could not. And I think corruption would always be present, again because there are many who only know how to deal that way - and those who enjoy it as a game. Just my ho...:) Good post; gets the wheels turning..
