Re: Thanks

Yep. It's funny how the "education" departments of our world give permission to our educators to display some things while they keep other things hidden, eh. Simular to religeous articles. And each definition is easy to find--just not in the more popular dictionaries.

Yes, many people are unaware of the definition. Thanks for commenting.

I was unaware of that second definition.

I have no issues with either form of prostitution although I think both practises leave the vulnerable open to abuse

LOL - can't wait to tell my kids that their mom is a prostitute, and that they are the unworthy purposes. It's the 2nd definition that is badly worded. My dictionary doesn't have the same description for prostitution.

I never said you did. I simply said you had a right to.

Re: Re: Re: Re: Hmm?

Actually, I haven't expressed my opinion.  I have only asked questions.

Re: Re: Re: Hmm?

It is the exact one, my friend. And I suppose being the judge of a thing can get a bit stressful...we're really getting off subject, but here goes: the post also plainly states its from the "modern" dictionary--which changes daily with redefined words. They added "unworthy purpose" to take away from it. Sorry to break it to you. But you have the right to your very own opinion on the subject, of course.

Re: Re: Glad you asked that ???

If the "unworthy purpose part doesn't mean anything in the definition, why is it there?
Isn't the worship of Molech the one where they sacrificed their children.  Now that sounds like a pretty unworthy purpose.

Re: Glad you asked that ???

Thanks for commenting and for asking--as I don't want anyone to get confused with this post. None of the occupations (not even the harlot) are of an unworthy purpose, TAPS. The core of the definition is "to sell" or more to the actual meaning "to promote"...in this case ones talent is what's prostituted. Meaning anything you have for sale: music, medical aid, or lemonade. I think most get stuck on what the product is that's prostituted. The actual word for a sexual prostitute is "harlot' or "whore". And, as I explained, even this practice was hailed sacred in ancient times. I'm really surprised that no one has commented on the religous part to this post. Anyway, thanks again for commenting.

How is it that you consider these as unworthy purpose?  -- "...an unemployed nurse handing out her resume for work; a comedian pitching to a nightclub owner for a session; a licensed merchant on the street corner, a musician or music producer,.."

Re: Well noted...

...but as I also wrote in post Kabu, "remember you're the judge as you judge." Who are we to judge is what I mean. And, in truth, I also said this definition is 60% truth, not complete truth. Whether we like or not the selling of your name or talents in any way or form is prostitution. Try not looking at the word as it's usually used. That helped me a lot. Its not the same once you know the truth.

You have stated in your post...the word actually means the service of promoting and selling ones ability, talents, or name for unworthy purposes.

So I don't believe that showing one's resume or strumming a guitar on a corner is an unworthy purpose therefore I cannot accept these instances as prostitution.

For me prostitution is if you sell, say your good name, in a busines deal... for gain.
