teaching is a lot more difficult than one would believe
i was much happier nursing than when I was teaching nursing students. good for you with that lesson

FSI, Right. It is not your fault if the system has failed the students and
parents. One truth about American education, being dealt with by progressive administrators today, is that students lie to their parents when the say they had a good day, or that they have no homework. Parents are equally deceived when they do not just investigate planners, talk to teachers and administrators every week.
But I thought your heart was in the right place, and that you handled the reality well. I would have taken it one step further. i often watch students read. I look for subvocalizing (lips moving) when reading, and non-reading patterns like eyes not on the page, eyes not following text, or eyes revealing incomprehension. Those students get my immediate attention in many remedial forms. Some need to have the text read to them, but while insisting that their eyes are following the text while it is read.
