I have heard of a few people who lost their hearing, the result of their livelihood.

I think my hearing got messed up when I sat for 11 years with a headset on my ears at work and it runs in the family

Kabu
In those days it was loud machinery - now it's LOUD music, LOL. And I always enjoy your writing, even when you tell tall tales about grandsons on snow fields - there is no snow in Oz, unless you import a bit from the Antarctic...

I'm a diehard Kabu fan - your posts are NEVER boring! I have difficulty hearing in crowded places too - too much loud music back then...and still.I indulge myself often with picctures of my grandkids, and love to see yours.

Always love your writing, Dear Kabu!
From your wonderful imagination, Gnome-ville to the fascinating fun facts about Australia to the great love story you are living - all very engaging reading.
Interesting information about hearing loss; I learned something new! But of course, sorry for your Dad. Your Grandson looks like he is having fun in the snow..:)

First things first -- your posts are never boring because they flow
from the mind of one who's interesting and interested in everything. I used to run a printing press and that noise does bad things to your hearing -- also used to enjoy loud music. So conversation in a crowd with lots of conflicting noise is sometimes difficult. I've learned to smile and nod and not say much. Had the hearing tested, got a price from the specialist who guaranteed I could hear conversations in crouded restaurants. I told him if I bought the darn things I couldn't afford to go to restaurants.

Your stories never bore us, young lady. Sometimes they are memories or a simple passing thought but always a delight to read. My daughter is also deaf (aided in one ear but without it she is classified as deaf). She's been like that since about 9 months olld - a bout of meningitis, we believe. She's a darn good lip reader and she/we worked very hard on her verbal skills when she was young that you can hardly tell she's deaf. Of course, if you speak behind her she doesn't pick up a darn thing.

I loved this post. I can so associate with it. Yes there is such a vast space between the time of our parents and greandparents and our grandchildren. It appears we live in one life sections.
