You describe those holiday memories so well in this poem.

For me it was a well spelled out description of the two facets of Christmas, the happy children and lights and bright holiday visions and then switches to spell out the sad darker Christmas of the homeless etc. Perhaps I am wrong but that's what poetry is about I think, how each one tries to capture what the poet was communicating, so that's how I saw this well written poem.

Re: The lights and music of the holidays, the presumed

the candy and dressup fun of Halloween - all are fun, best taken swallowed whole without very much contemplation.

religious and humanitarian themes - all are best enjoyed without a lot of worry and introspection.  If we haven't been decent and generous and thoughtful all year, those last three months aren't going to make us any better persons.

I remember the pencil lady Jay she was one of your favourites I should not think Christmas was much of a joyous affair to you at this time.

Y Since I’m single it began in May, looking through the first catalogs, imagining the freighters, arriving at the ports loaded with the new decorations for the year. In late August I cleaned the recreation room in the basement. It took two months with my final activity of going to the Christmas stores. I finished the project for November. Between 1987 and 2003 I upgraded and expanded my father’s gift to us in mid December. This served as self therapy to overcome grief from his death in 1987. My mother passed away on December 10, 2010. It doesn’t take long now. I condense the concept simply for this small apartment with a coffee shelf like our old bar shelf and other spaces with both some good and discount decorations close to the mood of my old basement. The Mormon Tabernacle Choir sings the carols finely. I appreciate it. BC-A, Bill’s R®st

Time is going so fast infront of our eyes. But at least we are waiting for beautiful occasions and holidays that cheers up the heart.
