August does seem like an awkward month with the occasion either past or forthcoming!! I wrote something on August on the 1st of this month and now we are in the middle and September is upcoming and oh>>> the lists go on and on. Great thoughts here BOB.

Re: I know I'm not, and you don't sound as if you are, either.

Sometimes I think that humans must be in a hurry to get to the end of their life.

Re: Right, CC! Eleven months is the mere blink of a retailer's eye!

It's just like a TV special I saw many years ago, revealing how the lavish Christmas specials were produced during the summer months, with the actors dressed in Santa suits, singing carols amid fake falling snow, and just generally oozing yule-themed mirth in the off-season.  Very disillusioning and depressing.

Re: excellent and the sales pitch for each new season begins earlier every year

"Halloween rubbish" is the perfect word for it!  I just don't KNOW right now what I'll need for winter, but if I DO need something, I sure as hell better shop for it now in August, because when the cold weather DOES come, they'll be selling beach towels and sunglasses!

Re: Right. Entirely too much of this looking-forward thing!

Yes, Lion, and I 've never gotten used to them. They always surprise.

it seems. I see halloween rubbish coming into the shops now. Sigh! I agree who wants to shop for winter gear yet.

Because marketing people have to be on their toes, planning ahead. Because the population follows suit..and most of us have forgotten to enjoy the moment.....
