I read your poem to Son #1 and he loved the part about running through the woods back home to see the "tittie magazines" under the cypress log.

Nice! You're right - art can take a lot of different forms, but always (it
seems to me) needs someone to say wow. As far out and original as the artistic thing might be, it involves a kind of recognition in that second person - it's something that moves us to say "That's it, all right!" even if we never saw it before. The artist sort of holds something out for us to look at/hear/read and makes it strike us as both new and familiar at the same time - quite a trick! TOO new and we say "Huh?", too familiar and we say "Why'd he/she bother?"
Great to talk about but hard to nail down. But that's okay, as long as we can appreciate.
