I think of his agony, straining at the ropes. The tears, trying somehow to reach the source of the call.Pleading threatening cursing praying....

Re:annicita

Thank you!  The story just developed so well, and I wasn't sure how to end it till "It's a Greek thing" occurred to me.  Fun ending!

Re: the last line

It's a more modern phrase than Homer would have used, certainly, but it struck me as a cool way to end it.

Re: This is the best version of the story of the Sirens that I have read.

As for what Ulysses heard and saw while tied up, I didn't go there.  I  felt it had more impact if it was left unspecified.  Finding words and images adequate for it would havebeen almost impossible.  I say "almost" cautiously because as soon as you say something is impossible, someone else goes ahead and does it.

Re: forte

You may be right.  The mast was probably the place to be - one of those bittersweet experiences you feel you might like to have again, but aren't sure.  It must have been delirious, ecstatic, at the time!  It took a certain kind of man.

This is the best version of the story of the Sirens that I have read.

Can you continue with the torment of Ulysse as he listens to that deadly call?

I think you have found your forte Bob you know the subject and can excel at that.

I would have listened to the singing it it is handy to be tone deaf at times,
