You are so right when you talk if his insecurity! There's no winning with him so the high ground is definitely the better choice! Like I have always said there is no sense getting into a pissing match with a skunk for the outcome is always unpleasant and never for the skunk! Of interest might be the truck driver that we watched from the bus. He turned his tractor trailer around the corner. He dragged the traffic light, wires, ametal pole and base with him onto the main street. He kept on going. They were replaced by the next day. Lol about labor. Good luck with your job slam.
