You're right, poetry is like magic. No matter when we read it, it is images created by words on paper. Not knowing what kale looks like either , this is what I got from your poem... until the comment section.

Re: shobana

The idea of making the comparison just by setting the two side by side with no comment appealed to me, but maybe it needs more.

Very clever work here Bob. I read your comment to Troosha and it sort of got your poem all the more clearer to me.

Re: troosha

Strange you should pick that line!  Both the female rabbit and the kale were chosen for other reasons - in an earlier version of the poem I had two things referred to as "it" (the rabbit and the page), so to keep the pronoun references clear I made the rabbit a "she".  After I re-wrote that section,  the change became unnecessary, but it stuck.  As for kale, the rhythm of that earlier version required a one-syllable leafy green edible, and kale was all I could think of.

Sorry to be so tedious, but your choice struck me and I thought I'd take a minute and make the comment.

The poem is an attempt to express something you show very well: poetry as a kind of magic-making.  Thanks for the visit.

Re: magic

My point is that a good poet can do similar magic with his/her words.

Re: tall kale

I'm talking major rabbits here, I guess, not your cutet little bunrab.  A Rambo Rabbit, as it were.  (Truth to tell, I didn't know kale was that tall.  Just poetic license for one-syllable edible.  I'll tell the rabbit to try something else.)

Do you know how tall Kale is Bob, sorry it bring discord to your reverie, is the rabbit standing on her two back legs in your case black legs if you think that is how a poets mind works. Now I realise I might be not allowing for Kale in your garden I do beg your pardon it might not be so hale if you have crops fail or perform your magic . I suppose it was a trick bless my soul, stuck to the side of the bowl . I liked the name of the Magician yippee can review our childhood comics Chicks Own was the first. I'll see if I can download a flower for our Ginny
