Regarding the relative reduction of costs....

There's an old story of how stores used to mark up prices on items in the days just before a big sale. With prices ridiculously over-inflated, they could then go around 'marking down' the prices on the items. They could then honestly say their prices had been greatly 'reduced' for the sale. When patrons saw signs advertising items marked down ten, twenty, thirty percent or more they rushed to buy them, unaware that these same items had been priced far lower only a few days earlier, and might well be again.  With so many clever marketing tactics and such genius at manipulating us, you'd think someone could spare just a few minutes to come up with a way to actually make our lives a little better....

We pay too much for gas in this country, but the bums who own the companies will gouge until there is nothing left in my opinion! sam

Some people are just not aware of the concept of "Aim high, shoot low." When gas prices first broke $1.00 a gallon, and began their steady climb, the jumps in prices were drastic. Then it was $2.00, then $3.00, and what happens is, the higher the price climbs to, the more it looks like a huge savings when it comes down just a little bit! When it broke $4.00 ( a ridiculous price ) people went crazy. When it dipped to $3.75 or $3.85, people went "Whew! That's much better!" But it's actually not . . .  it's still ridiculous! Home shopping networks do the same thing. They advertise some piece of crap item as originally $400, but will sell it to you for the one day price of $79.95! Wow, what a savings! But in the meantime, it costs them $5.00 to make, and will fall apart before your check clears! It's a vicious cycle, and we're all, as consumers, stuck in the middle of it!
