If Robots can build their own tools....

How long before they decide what to build? How long before they build...other robots? If they order their own parts, will they become both the consumer and the product? As mechanization takes over industry, will the machines become the preferred customers? If the economy depends on the robots, will they gain more importance, and power, in our society? Will an A.I. demand...inhuman rights? Will they make us obsolete? By making robots to do our bidding, we have made them in our image. If we grow obsolete, will our mechanized children take care of us, as we try to preserve endangered species? Given othe way we've treated each other and the planet...what should we expect from our mechanical children? Boggles the mind!

What a world we live on, just think, yesterday, nobody would have believed this, and tomorrow the robots will be in the White House.

NAUT when I first read the caption I thought it was that scientists had created a robot that could cook its own food, female I presumed. Perhaps that's 50 years down the line. Anyway it's a start, I expect an association of some sort will begin to protest. Interesting blog as always.

A kid I was mentoring at Richard Hugo House wrote a

fabulous story about robots that could build tools. He was seventeen and a senior in high school, had already written a play that got a reading on stage before an audience. I told him he should be my mentor... Still get the occasional email from him, now graduating from college and probably writing sci fi and fantasy for a living.

Reminds me of that old movie, "Westworld" starring Yul Bryner.   It terrorized me.
