Re: Blowing Your Own Trumpet
I've appreciated the sentiments of DESIDERATA for around 45 years now.
Blowing one's own trumpet--I think at any volume, benefits from a touch of finesse. Bringing one's lamp out from under the bushel should not burn down the neighborhood. To refuse to share one's light or one's music, is a sad waste.
I especially like your writing and your blogs because you are showing us a part of the world that we don't see much of in our US popular culture. Not everyone has the opportunity to travel to other places in the world, to discover how real and potent they are. Many don't see the need: New Yorkers are famed (pretty unfairly) for considering NYC the only place that matters. Most people, i think, are that way about their home town. It doesn't occur to them to wonder, let alone to explore.
Your writing gives the world greater dimension, and I thank you for it!

Blowing Your Own Trumpet
"If you aint gonna blow your own trumpet, aint nobody gonna blow it for you." Says my fellow black brothers in the US of A. That is the other side of the story. ''But keep the damned thing muted" Says the poem Disederata.
Thank you for responding to my article on your blog the way you have done, and not through a short 'hit and run' comment only.

My MIL was one to force her ways on everyone else (not just on me her DIL). It made people turn away and never persuaded anyone to change to her way. But somehow she always thought she was winning any confrontation.

Jimmy, I have come to doubt that the Golden Rule is always best
but it is a very good place to start.

I believe it all comes down to "The Golden Rule," which may sound simplistic, but many still find difficult to perform, for one reason or another.
