Coons are a hoot, especially the babies.....I have a backyard here at the lake they seem to consider a vacation spot so I frequently get to spy on them.  They get into ferocious battles at times and a film would be interesting.

I'm pretty sure it must have been a raccoon. We once had one living under our deck occasionally (they're actually rather peripatetic), but he (I think it was a male, rather big) never made too much of a mess in our backyard.

One morning we found him by the steps, stiff legs in the air...

My LSW buried him in some corner in the back, and may even have shed a tear or two in the process...

That camera would be interesting and wouldn't be too expensive and that would make for neat blog posts with the pics too.

Those masked bandits are cute, but sure can make a mess! I don't have the problem here with all the dogs running loose outside! It would be interesting having a camera out there!

A pity you had not kept a few samples of the droppings Pat sometimes I see some and I think EEk a rat but it is usually a small hedgehog. Evidently it can climb and has sharp teeth and is curious and persistent. I suppose you could look for paw prints. Can racoons climb. I do remember you writing about that Robin, well when you mentioned the nest.
