And you're surprised by this?

You can't put the monkeys in charge of the banana depository, and then later be surprised to find most of the bananas are gone when you want some for your morning cereal. Will "None Of The Above" be on the ballot next election?

Yeah...

The people who need to change the rules are the people who make the rules.  Just like they will ever lower thier salaries.

I've seen "shadowy" evidence for a long time of deep corruption

on both sides of the aisle. This is why I vote for independents whenever possible and/or feasible. I had heard some rumblings about this scam in particular; hopefully the crooks will at least be publicly embarrassed if nothing else.
It is hard to know how to pry power from those who grip it so strongly but if democracy and working people are ever to have a chance for real security and prosperity it must be done. There are nonviolent ideas, but of course those who present them are demonized to the point of their message being silenced.

I was surprised to learn about Nancy Pelosi being involved. My impression of her was that she was, if anything, anti-Wall Street, and the last thing she would be doing is getting involved in that kind of profiteering.

The comment you made near the end of the blog, about the hypocrisy of your elected representatives dictating terms to the public, but then not living by them themselves - the very moment I read that I immediately was reminded of the situation of tax evasion over here in the UK. It's been a big problem here as well - UK politicians, the same as US political leaders, dictate to the voters here about how "we're all in this together", with people trying to get through this difficult economic period, and while spending cuts are being implemented, tuition fees on young people wanting to go to university, while all of this is happening, there are very rich individuals, some of them being politicians, who employ off shore accounts so that they can not pay as much tax. If they didn't do this - and they don't have to - their rich enough for it not to make much difference whether they pay all that they're meant to pay - I think we could expect for there not to have to be as deep cuts in spending, as high a rise in tuition fees. I know that tax evasion is also an issue in the US as well. I hope it gets sorted soon. It can't be that difficult to make whatever changes need to be made - the moral support would be there for whoever tried to implement the change.

That was a very informative blog.
