There's nothing to beat the joy of reading a printed book

With Borders closing its doors I wouldn't be surprised if they become a thing of the past! I do like how it has changed the publishing industry, more of a level playing field I think! sam

probabably be printed in the air before one's eyes eventually FS I expect your Mum likes to be able to get her book instantly, I do prefer paper but if push comes to shove.

I love the real books too - the smell, turning the pages...but I imagine more and more will be using the electonic books because of the ease, weight, less cost to purchase stories, etc. Yes Butterfly, you can highlight and bookmark passages in Kindle - even save them with references to your own personal file in the e-book.

Re: printed books
Isn't reading a printed book a personal thing? Something you really "get into" and it seems like it would be as if you were holding a picture frame or something like that! I like to underline and make notes sometimes, when a phrase or paragraph reaches out to me.  Can you make notes on these things?  I've thought of buying one but haven't just because of the impersonal touch, I guess. We need to hear from those who have them? Write me, someone!

Yes I have thought about getting one, but somehow I love the feel of a real book...it is as if you can feel the life of the pages right through the cover. I really love poetry books, sometimes I feel like I can even smell the flowers within.

BC-A's comment made me think the printed book will always be in existence, but probably not as a thing to be read but rather to be cherished and displayed.

Plus there's that paranoid/conspiracy theorist side of me that wants printed copies of everything.  In case the databases all go POOF.  You just never know...

I still like the real thing as well...
Probably just because this is what I'm used to...

I hope not.  Up to now, I have been a hold out for the real thing.  I like the ambiance.
