Re: TAPS -- the surgery...
I can understand why the game fades from the family's attention, Taps. I'm keeping my fingers crossed the kids' dad comes out of it okay and that your kids are able to cope with the situation. Hugs to you and all.

Re:Naut -- XLV...
I remember the way that works now. I was pretty sure L didn't stand for 30. You know, as convoluted as that system is, I shoulda just reasoned it out. Thanks, Naut.

Thank you darling Pat....I now know heaps more about the game than I did
before reading your post. being as how I come from a place where we play...... er real football...no not Rugby.....that too is a game for grunts....Australian footy. I think I should leave before someone throws something at me...LOL...but thanks love ,..I'll join you for that pie though, and since we aren't counting ANYTHING, can I have cream as well?

I've kind of lost my enthusiasm for the game under the circumstances.  The party has fizzled out.  Everyone is waiting for news from Bob's surgery.  They are in the process of removing the large tumor in his cerebellum.  He also has a small one in his pituitary gland...and they are pretty sure that they are tumors that have metasticised from cancer somewhere else in his body.  Sons are on edge.  Florida Son has assumed all the responsibilities for his Dad since he is there on hand.  Everything happened so fast.

Pat

LOL! Your reasoning in deducing the value of L is impeccable - except that it's wrong, for it's actually 50! In spite of that, you managed to arrive at the correct meaning of XLV, namely 45.

In the Roman numeral system, if the symbol for a 'smaller' amount is placed before the symbol of the lager one, you must subtract the smaller one. So XLV translates into 50 - 10 + 5 = 45...

My problem with this Superbowl is a different one. I will definitely watch it (though I won't go to the party I was invited to because it's across town and I can't find a designated driver), but I don't know which team to root for.

So between now and tonight I have to find a good reason for chosing my favourite, which is tricky. Maybe I'll take the Packers because I like cheese...
