Best to handle business as business and leave everything else out of it.

I think your rationale was rather poignant in this one! I think it is wise not to get to attached to the business insofar as it means a difficult separation once it were gone, sold, etc! I enjoyed reading your thoughts on this location and I think it is a matter of out of sight out of mind, too! sam

FSI...very true that a contract is only as good as the paper its
written on (unless its a binding insurance item)..speaking of insurance, who covers the insurance for Location Z?  Just curious, because that can get complicated....

I agree with Kabu
business and pleasure should never meet. Actually, though, I feel as my days are streams of consciousness now where the borders are much more clouded than ever they were before

Interesting and well written take on business relationships and dealings
At first I was a bit confused about the selling of the location when you said the potential buyer would also buy the carwash from Josh because I thought your Dad owns it and Josh leases it. Went back and reread and understood your Dad owns the land, Josh the actual business. Guess I haven't had enough coffee yet..:) Interesting history about Z too. Your Dad sounds as though he is a rarity in the business world of today - an honest and fair person.
