It's so good to have a boss that one can go to with concerns and expect some reassurance.  Your Dad sounds like a good man with a lot of experience in that line.

Your dad is a good man. Some people are sensitive. For those that have concerns, they should go and get it from the proverbial 'horses mouth'

Your dad is the kind of employer everyone wishes they had! He deals with troublesome situations in a wise, humane manner.

I think your dad handled it well. Poor Howard. I hope he has learned that he is better to ask the 'horse's mouth'  than stewing about things for a couple of months. Much needless worry.

It was so good of your Dad to reassure him! And, I just abhor folks who like to stir the pot! A negative attitude is so detrimental to an individual and an organization! sam

It's really a 'no brainer' about Eric, he sounds like a real problem maker. He's not what you'd call a great thinker though. Maybe Howard could keep his own self esteem by reminding Eric that folks might call your dad for a reference as to his (Eric's) reliability as an ex employee.

it always helps to talk, even when it doesn't go in your
favor it's best to know.  Good this all worked out.

communication with the right person at the right time can make all
the difference in the world....in most workplaces, one soon learns who it is best to listen to (usually the boss), and who to ignore, even if one has to stuff cotton in their ears to do so.....

you are so right...communication is vital in any type of relationship.

Of course it's worrying when times get hard FS. Men see big firms go under and can't help worrying. It is better to get it out in the open. I wonder how long Howard debated if he should mention it, people usually simmer. Perhaps dad should call a meeting and set the facts straight, I have a weird sense of humor I would probably point to you and say when he goes be careful.
