It's good that you got to see your grandmother before she passed on
Maybe that is the reason your dad gave you the rest of the summer off?  Maybe he thought you needed the time to grieve since you were quite young.

I think your Dad did a fine job of easing you into the business! It was heartbreaking to read about your grandmother! I can see why you took the rest of the summer off as well! I really look forward to the rest of the years! sam

everything that you write is very interesting...9 is very young to
start working for Dad but I guess farm kids have always had chores to do in the past years.

Very interesting.
It is a shame that some fathers do not have any patience with their sons when it comes to something like work.  You have a gem for a father (and visa versa).

Sadly FS boys seem to like to work for their Father and in your case it worked out well.,

But my Father had a small business and he was no business man, he became too friendly   with his customers and eventually although I continued to help him I became resentful.

I then discovered he was very ill and we all seemed to die. Of course there is more to it than that, but it was as it happened in that time. If it had been a successful business it would have been fine probably with hindsight one needs something  that will grow in the future not be obsolete
