Ciel, wasn't Isaac Asimov the Kardashians' high-heel consultant?

I so agree with you - and Ciel.  And just to show how biased and old fashioned I really am - 'nobody makes anything anymore.'  I shouldn't really complain about that, as I didn't make anything during my working life, but I did at least instruct.

I for one, am not 'we'

at least not the 'we' you describe.  But I see 'we' all over the place.

Americans have gotten so complacent, thinking that a strong nation can afford to be dumb, ill-educated, vaguely informed and emotionally reactive.  Journalists use lousy grammar and try to be more entertaining that truthful.  Tests are weakened so scores look better, and students look better taught, better educated.  And Looking Good is what it's all about.

Everyone has an opinion, and seems to think that just because they are entitled to have one and express it, competent or not, they should.

Romance novels sell better than literature.

Kids under 30 don't know who Isaac Asimov was.

Worst of all, there is an air of righteousness about being ignorant and entitled.

"95% of anything is crap."

Self-indulgence is expensive.
