Kabu, someone with the same last name as ours did some research
into our family tree a few years back and discovered that generations back, many generations back, the family fled Germany for Ireland due to religious persecution, then they eventually had to flee Ireland and came to Canada....goodness only know what scoundrels lurk in the branches of our family tree..

A talented family indeed! In India we have the Mangeshkar family, all the siblings are talented singers & musicians, with Lata Mangeshkar ,the queen of melody,at the helm.

Sounds like you are the historian, the teller of tales, the keeper of all things interesting. Every family needs one of those. Many families lose all continuity of lineage and homeland.

Yes, indeed..
finally caught up and I loved every word, Dear Kabu - so enriching and excellently written. Much talent in your lineage, it lives on!
I had some posts up awhile back about my genealogy finds (since taken down) - the surprise of discovering a French connection on my Mother's side along with the known Native American root-lings - it is fascinating to mine our depths indeed. Thank you for the great reads!

I find it interesting that four of the five made their way to England while Susan would never go back.

Fascinating! I wonder if there would be recordings of Rose's voice - the first recordings were made in the late 1870s and early '80s, and of course there are gramophone recordings of Nellie Melba dating from the very early 1900s...
