One's llife will shape a person. It depends on the person whether to react positively or negatively. I spent seven years incarcerated (self-preservation). For a long time, I thought I was the only one in my family to 'do time', but I was wrong. My biological father, whom I never met, spent a year in a youth facility. He claimed a crime he didn't commit, petty theft, to protect a friend. In the end, I believe it depends on the person.

Ah yes, the old nature vs. nurture argument. What I found in studying psychology for one semester back in Fall 2008 is that the consensus seems to be that there is a sort of middle ground between the two.
