You've articulated in this piece exactly what I admire most about your writing. There are those who get their way by pushing and shoving their points down their (perceived) opposition's throats. It took awhile, but I finally learned to stop visiting those blogs; even when I don't intend to comment. Maybe they've won the fight, but they've lost my readership and my respect. Then there are blogs like yours, in which views which may be opposed to my own are firmly stated without condescension. These are the real gems.
The assertiveness thing is slower coming. Previous efforts at asserting my opinions have been disastrous, at least in the little Blogit scheme of things. I'll get there eventually!

Both in college and working parttime. One just moved into an apartment and swears it will not interfere w/ her senior year. The baby will be a junior and finishing her 4th year at TARGET. She earned enough to go twice to France with her HS class. Both are winners in the extreme. Thanks for asking! Love ya'.
