Have you read This Wheel's on Fire, by Levon Helm?  Love, I do.  I am a fanatic...and have everything they recorded, and what they recorded with Bob Dylan...and Ronnie Hawkins...and as The Hawks...and then all of their subsequent solo albums...and anything any of them ever played on for someone else. ;) :)

Like you, I'm a huge fan of "The Band!'
 ShadyLady,
"The Weight" was my very favorite of all their songs. Whatever I am doing, wherever I am, when I hear that song playing, I stop everything and listen carefully, knowing that it will be over, far too soon, just like what happened with "The Band," itself. I cannot say or figure out, what there is about that song and the performance of it, but if anyone else records their own version of it, it will seem flat, hackneyed and uninspired, by comparison. They had MUCH other great stuff too, but for some reason, that song superbly resonates for me. When I think back on that whole too brief, seminal decade, "The Weight" and "Love the One You're With," define those days, perfectly. It's interesting to me, that I didn't even recognize the performers, in your photo of them. I guess that for me, they were only an audio memory, instead of a visual one. I never was one for watching music (videos,) with the sole exception of Billy Joel's black & white vid masterpiece of, "For the Longest Time."
