A far cry from my family FSI..every now and then there is something coming up and we are together most times.

Sounds like a really nice way to celebrate
I'd much rather do that than some loud, over the top event

Eating out together is a nice way to celebrate a birthday.  Except, I very much dislike those places where the waiting staff comes to your table banging and singing Happy Birthday to...even if they do bring a complimentary dessert.
