IT'S CALLED "JUSTICE", MEANING VENGEANCE OR RETRIBUTION
and the injured parties, i.e., close relatives of the victim, are supposed to get "closure".

someone is convicted and the family feels so much better that someone is going to "get theirs", i.e., DEATH, in retribution for a loved one's murder.  And it doesn't matter if it's the wrong person.  the idea of too many criminal court battles is to win, notwithstanding the innocence of the accused.  PA's get votes & accolades for winning cases, again, with  no regard for the actual guilt and innocence of the accused.  Evidence is withheld, testimony, etc., just so that there is a victory in court.

the system of jurisprudence is supposed to a means of protecting the innocent from false accusation and conviction; but it has devolved into a means of vengeance for the surviving family of the victim -- as if those wronged had a gun in their hand -- that's what it is too many times any more -- a virtual gun in the hand of the wronged.

Christians forget that the Bible states quite clearly, "Vengeance is mine," saith the Lord, "I will repay." -- in both the Old and New Testaments.  It's amazing how many such precepts of the Bible Christians ignore.
