Thank you, Everyone..
I'm sorry if I scared you a little.. I didn't mean to.... Believe me, I wouldn't have touched the cobra at home if it was bigger and still alive (the dead female was only about 1.5m long and about 15-20cm diameter). Lying dead on the ground, it didn't look that scary..

The first time I touched a snake was in Melbourne Zoo. The zoo had feeding times when visitors can touch the snake after it was being fed (fully supervised of course). The zoo guide also gave good information about snakes.

Since I've always loved outdoor activities, I had to learn (in girl guide) about how to avoid meeting a snake in a bush, which was simply by stepping hard on land while walking (wearing hard sole shoes/boots, if possible). Snakes' strongest sense is their alertness for vibration, so whenever they feel the earth vibrates they will analyse the source and their first reaction will naturally to run away from it.

If they didn't run, the biggest reason would either be they just ate or shed. During both this periods, they are in weak condition for running, so their immediate reaction if forced to, is to scare their enemies and to defend themselves. This can be avoided by passing by humans by staying on footpath and if there is any need to look into bushes (in case looking for something missing), do it very slowly and calm so that if there was any snake under the bush, it wouldn't consider the human an intruder/enemy.

While my husband.. he has been living in this house for years, so, he knows his surroundings very well..

As much as we both love nature, neither of us ever hope to meet alive one though..

Goodness Orcalion, you seem so brave to be able to touch the snake! The catfish rearing is pretty interesting - thanks for sharing the info. I'd probably have a fit even if I see a baby snake - ok I cannot get over that.

Very interesting post, thanks for sharing. I would have been terrified, if I had cobras in the garden; you seem to take it so calmly and tell us that people keep them as pets. Are they less dangerous than their reputation?
