I am deeply distressed over this situation at Ft. Hood! I try to take things in perspective but I am very tired of having to walk on eggshells around some groups! I try to respect all religions and it pains me that the moderates in this religion remain silent! It could have easily been my son at Ft. Hood! The man is a killer and needs to be punished for his crime! I understand he is paralyzed, I do not want the death penalty for him, I want him to suffer every day of his life for his actions! To kill him would be the easy way out! Also, there were clear indications of his instability. It makes no difference who he did it in the name of, people yell whatever they will when they are in heinous deeds as it were! My son has to keep his mouth shut! I let the mom in me come and I want want to know why he has to shut up and respect the differences in others when it could cost him his life! Also, those who saw this coming from the killer are responsible for they did not intervene! For my son to have to display respect and keep his mouth shut that could lead to his death is unconscionable! I am out of it these days for the President's address and announcement on Tuesday could send my son to Afghanistan! There is no clear understanding of what is to be accomplished! It will be more death for soldiers and I pray it will not be in vain! I will remain tolerant but if my child had been killed at Ft. Hood I would not be very calm! I saw a picture of a mom grasping the boot and picture of her murdered son, in tears, he was only 19, such a sad thing, so unnecessary! I pray to GOD that my son not suffer at the hands of those who wear the same uniform! Shelly

Excellent post! As is to be expected, I agree with some of your points, and disagree with others.

It is obviously impossible to repond in any detail, but I would like to make one observation: I view it as extrememely positive that we are having this debate, but wish that others, and especially moderate Muslims would openly dicuss these issues...

And I can assure that I will have more posts on this issue, which may well come to define at least that part of the 21st century that we shall still experience...

If only the moderates could get more of a voice.

I wish we didn't have to think of such things or be so wary of what
other people say and do, but the world is full of negative tides and people with nothing to lose.
