Elinjo
I am no stranger to tears these days (having lost my mother only a month ago).  They come at the strangest moments sometimes but I have learned that there’s no need to choke them back.  In fact, they can be extremely healing. Thank you for sharing your story with us.

How very sad...To lose a parent at such a young age must be devastating. I 'lost' my mother in a different way, through divorce, which wasn't quite as bad. Also, I was little older, thirteen...

I can't imagine losing a parent at such a young age, especially when one is not allowed to grieve.

How sad for you sometimes adults just forget that children have real
feelings and need to mourn their own way.The giggling I guess was just a formof emotional relief. It is difficult forme to cry I find it really hard. I was taught not to cry not to make a scene.

I'm sorry that your dad died and you couldn't cry straight away for as long as you needed. I cried today for my brother, and he died in 1944. Thank you for sharing with us luv

Excellent writing of a hard memory.
And you're right about the blessing or kindness in tears.

Betty, you have recalled the past so vividly and with so much emotion....tears are cathartic, as is expressing oneself, and I hope putting it down has helped. I hope you and Ina and family are doing well. Nita

Your crystal clear memories of your youth, were well written.
Betty,
My heart cries for what was the overshadowing sadness of your early formative years. I am amazed that you didn't turn out to be a bitter, miserable and vindictive person, instead of the lovely, loving, and gracious lady that we all know as Elinjo. You have overcome so much, in the way of adversity, pain, and toxic family life, it is surprising that you remember any of your childhood fondly. I think that even had you grown up in a wealthy, overly-indulgent family, you would never have grown up to become a spoiled, petulant diva type of woman, because you were born blessed with intelligence, empathy, and a generous spirit.
Add to that, the fact that you are an extremely talented writer and storyteller, and it is no surprise that you have a large audience of readers, eager to have you spin us another yarn.
What a pleasure it is to be a part of the blogit community, with writers like you, Naut, Food, Kabu, Wiley, Mal, Vogue, Sam, Muley, Snowview, Taps, Cricket, Benzinha, Strat, Isis, and all the enormously talented others, that it makes me feel fortunate, to have been accepted among you.

So amazingly written - about a very painful time in your life.  I know a few people who, even as adults, laugh instead of cry at highly emotional events.  it seems to be a natural reaction to some - and especially for a kid who's slowly processing grief.  Thanks for sharing this....Mal

Betty - It is so well outlined. Different people grieve in different ways and you were just a child then. It is really a beautiful insight on your growing up years. . Take care of yourself, be safe and have a lovely day.
