As a parent I have no desire at all for my boys to fear me, in any way shape or form. And I never feared either my father or step-father. Fear is FAR from being the same thing as respect and a good parent knows how to get their kids to respect them, not fear them.
In fact in my experience the kids who fear their parents are generally the ones who end up being the bullies and grow up to have all manner of real issues with relationships and such.
My wife feared her father and has NO respect for him at all and wishes to have nothing to do with him for the most part, and most likely if not for her mother woudl have no contact with him at all. And while she was not a bully, she did have a fair amount of issues when I met her, that we have worked through.
So your point falls apart with the smallest bit of logic and real life put against it.

Hell
Those were very good thoughts on God and Hell. You may know this but Saint Augustine, who had quite a life before converting, vehemently attacked the Manicheans who taught that God made the evil as well as the Good. Your not alone in your feelings. I've learned also that people can find God thru the excesses and thru negativity. It seems most important that we all find God and not worry about how so much. Thanks, Chuck
