Re: Naut -- Is there a Canadian NaNoWriMo event?
Glad you asked. This event is international. Since the web makes us a global village, people anywhere are welcome.  Even if you don't want to get into it, you might find the website interesting.

Pat

I haven't got the slightest problem rubbing my tummy and patting my head at the same time - I just tried again to make sure!

Doing the NaNoWriMo thing is an entirely different kettle of fish, however, something I wouldn't try. Well, maybe if my life depended on it, but it doesn't, luckily...

By the way, is there a Canadian NaNoWriMo event, or is it strictly an American thing? No, I'm not planning to enter, just curious...

Re: Plot or Characters
That's funny Pat.  I'd just decided to heck with this stopping at a certain page rubbish.  That's for tomorrow, the third wet day in a row - but this time it is a wet Sunday, and Sunday's are for finishing books you're not supposed to.

Re: Elinjo, "it must be nerve wracking"

Actually, it's so impossible the first time you try it, you expect to fail, and fail miserably. When you finally pass that 50,000-word goal line, it's very satisfying, even if ten thousand of those words are pure blather, ideas grabbed to fill pages.  Funny thing, the writing instinct kicks in and some of the crap turns out to be surprisingly good.

The second marathon is an exciting challenge, not so much anxiety.  Priorities are clearer when there's a deadline involved.

Re: johnmacnab - "nothing seems to make the plot or characters work."
Have you tried rubbing your tummy and patting your head at the same time?  Or visualising your bad guy (girl) as some total jerk you went to school or worked with? Just devise a suitable revenge -- it'll write itself.  BTW, I'd go ahead and read the rest. Curiosity wouldn't let me rest until I did.

Re: momentsintime -- 13-year old wants to enter writing contest
TAPS, I think this is a separate thing - I think I saw a flyer at our library. Also I'm pretty sure NaNoWriMo has a young writers section. You can get all kinds of details at the NaNoWriMo website... which reminds me, I need to log in pretty soon and register for this year's contest.

Certainly sounds an interesting book . It must be nerve wracking going in for a contest like that; good luck.

Pat
I've arrived at page 118 in 'No Plot No Problem,' and apparently I haven't to go any further until I'm into week 2 of the actual writing.  As for NaNO, I'm getting more uptight as the time goes by.  Nothing I seem to do makes the plot or the characters work.

I have a lot of good books in my home library that I NEED and WANT
to read!  Sounds like that's a great and helpful book you mentioned!

Just curious, momentsintime wrote in her blog that her  13 year old wants to enter a library sponsored national writing contest--50,000 words in one month.   That sounds like your NaNoWriMo doesn't it?  Is there no age limit for that?
