Just catching up here, and there's enough to think about for a series and then some, lol. I agree with you when you speak of  teaching kids the need for critical thought - the problem is that you can't teach kids critical thought. Hell, you can't teach most adults critical thought...One reason is that most people don't like critical thought - it can be damn uncomfortable...

Most people think critical thought involves criticizing what they don't like - but that ain't critical thought...

Re: TAPS, I would guess that Judge Judy sees a limited segment
of the teenage population.  She also is the kind of person, perhaps, to whom kids lie.

Judge Judy often asks, "How can you tell when a teen is lying?"
And then says, "When they open their mouth."
