Comments on A Letter to Colomba

I remember the prints of a leaf on the flagstone in front of our fireplace in our backyard. When I returned to walk to the store on the backstreet I couldn’t see if the fireplace still stands in the corner of the yard behind the American high bush cranberry (viburnum) hedge. The last owner of the house gave in to the pressures of the townhouse apartment owner in the back. They cut down the tallest old maple tree in town. Thus I don’t know if either the fossil of recent times or the fireplaces remain. However I can tell you this: Our minds press the best fossils that remember our past.
